We have gone on numerous memorable trips as a family, from getaways here in the U.S. to incredible vacations on the other side of the world. But these trips are starting to look different now that my kids are getting older.
I recently traveled with my oldest daughter to tour a few colleges across the country and it got me thinking about future mom-and-daughter getaways. What a fun way to create new memories together and get to know each other on a deeper level. Plus, it would be a nice escape from the chaos of everyday life.
So, today I’m sharing a round-up of mother-and-daughter getaway ideas that you can use as inspiration for your next trip!
10 Mom And Daughter Getaways
New York City
After being on my bucket list for years, we were recently able to visit New York City as a family of six. During our stay at the luxurious Conrad Midtown New York Hotel, I was already thinking about my next visit to the Big Apple. What better time to return than for a mother-daughter trip? There are endless opportunities for fun and entertainment for moms and daughters of all ages. From shopping and touring art galleries to exploring two incredible botanical gardens: Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden or the New York Botanical Garden.
And if you need another reason to choose New York for your mother-daughter excursion, the city was named one of the most budget-friendly places to visit for the occasion.
Boston, Massachusetts
If you can’t decide between a quaint historical town with cobblestone streets and the hustle and bustle of an energetic city, Boston offers the best of both worlds. It also happens to be the home of several top universities!
You can enjoy uninterrupted conversations as you walk along the Charles River, laugh together while you ride in a swan boat, and learn a thing or two by visiting one of the amazing museums. For a delicious meal with a view, head over to Cambridge and Somerville, although you’ll easily find delectable eats on nearly every corner in Boston!
Don’t forget to sit down for afternoon tea at the ornate Beacon Hill Books & Cafe! Or, for a more lively afternoon when the sun is shining, check out The Lawn on D for games, live music, and concessions.
In Boston, you can enjoy exactly the kind of mother-and-daughter getaway you’re craving.
Napa Valley, California
If you’re looking for something on the West Coast, look no further than Napa Valley. Considered the quintessential vacation spot for California wine tasting, this area has a lot to offer mothers and daughters who desire a quiet, picturesque escape.
For older travelers (and wine drinkers), I highly recommend looking into Alila Napa Valley, a luxury adults-only resort and hotel nestled in the heart of Northern California’s wine country. In between tours of the local wineries, shops, and art galleries, you can escape to luxury and serenity thanks to the numerous treatments and offerings of the resort spa.
Even if you don’t drink, a meal at Napa Valley’s The French Laundry is worth the trip all on its own.
Seattle, Washington
We’ve made numerous trips to Seattle since my parents moved there in 2014. It’s one of several places I regularly recommend to families looking for things to do with their kids. Imagine how delighted I was to learn that Seattle is a premiere destination for those looking for a spa-themed retreat. The Ladies Room, in particular, offers hydrotherapy in the form of saunas, soaking rooms, and a steam room. You can also book a massage, body scrub, or facial. It sounds to me like a trip to Seattle might be just what you and your mom need!
Charleston, South Carolina
Charleston, South Carolina, The Holy City, has a fantastic mix of things to do for mothers and daughters of all ages. You can spend half a day or more browsing the boutiques in the King Street Antique District, so long as you leave enough time for afternoon tea at Camellias or a massage and facial at Hotel Bennett. Then, finish your day with some world-class seafood at Hank’s or Amen Street.
Kiawah Island is just a short drive away for even more opportunities for an amazing outdoor adventure!
Oahu, Hawaii
Hawaii holds a special place in my heart. Between the stunning views, breathtaking beaches, and world-renowned cuisine, you just can’t beat a vacation to Hawaii. That said, I’m partial to Oahu.

San José, Costa Rica
Named Travel and Leisure’s 2024 Destination of the Year, San Jose, Costa Rica has no shortage of sights, sounds, and experiences. From the beaches to the rainforests, if you’re looking for an epic outdoor adventure to enjoy with your mom or daughter, this is definitely a place to consider.
In between sips of incredible coffee and bites of fresh produce, be sure to check out Museo de Arte y Diseño Contemporáneo (Museum of Contemporary Art & Design). Then return to your room at Origins for a quick change of clothes before you partake in a yoga class, whitewater rafting, or horseback riding. There really is something for everyone in San Jose!
Tokyo, Japan
Tokyo is another one of my favorite destinations, and it would make a marvelous mother-and-daughter getaway. There’s something to do on nearly every corner, but you’ll definitely want to look into shopping in Shibuya and Harajuku. As for where to eat, there are over 180 Michelin-starred restaurants in Tokyo, so you have your pick of all kinds of cuisine.

Copenhagen, Denmark
Copenhagen isn’t often the first destination people think of for a mother-daughter getaway, but it’s one that definitely should be considered. Visitors of all ages will love the vast array of delicious Danish foods and scenic bike rides, although the older crowd is more likely to appreciate the mesmerizing botanical garden and rows of vibrant homes in Christiana. For moms traveling with younger daughters, be sure to spend time in Tivoli Gardens!
Seoul, South Korea
Last, but certainly not least, is one of my favorite cities in the world, Seoul. Seoul, South Korea is not only a premier travel destination, it’s one of the best cities to visit for a memorable, one-of-a-kind mother-and-daughter vacation.

What Is A Good Mother And Daughter Trip
A good mother-and-daughter trip is one that suits your interests as well as your schedule and budget. While I’m sure we would all enjoy a dream vacation to a bucket list destination, a mother-daughter getaway is about bonding with each other and you don’t have to break the bank to do that.
My opinion, which is similar to the one shared in my post on how to make your daughter feel beautiful, is that, more than anything else, it’s about the effort you put into it. Giving your daughter your time and attention is a gift she will appreciate, no matter where you are.
What do you think makes a great mom-and-daughter trip?
Where would you love to go for a mom-and-daughter getaway?
Would the two of you love a beach vacation on the west or east coast? Or would you prefer a day trip spent exploring quaint art galleries in a small midwest town?
For mother-daughter duos of all ages, spending quality time doesn’t have to mean packing up and heading to a world-famous destination. Whether you’re near or far, the ultimate mother-daughter trip is one that brings you closer together.
