I can’t believe tomorrow will be one year since this beautiful girl came into my life. I never told anyone this but before she was born, I once told my husband I feel like there’s another soul who wants to join the family. I’m not sure if he took me seriously because even I couldn’t believe what I was saying but it’s as if my heart always knew before my head.⁣
⁣
Having a baby in 2020 wasn’t easy- I’m sure a lot of you new mamas out there can relate, but in many ways, it was a year that allowed me to slow down and find meaning, not in the outside things but the simple things…like the quiet rhythmic breathing in middle of the night and the way her tiny fingers wrap around mine when she’s breastfeeding.⁣

We had to postpone her birthday party but I’m making the most of it by being creative in ways we can. Thanks to my friends @mirandanorthphoto and @kellyzhangstudio, I got to capture this beautiful first year memory. Swipe to see our day one together to see how far we’ve come.⁣

Typically this would be the week I’m planning and hosting a huge 1st birthday celebration for my family and friends. Instead, I placed an order for a custom Hanbok for myself and Rumi in celebration of her first year. My mom typically gifts one to my children and I rent one for myself but this year I really wanted to gift myself to celebrate my motherhood journey through 4 children. ⁣
⁣
I remember watching my mom buy beautiful hanbok dresses and wishing I can have one custom made too. Today I’ve reached that place in my life where I can fully embrace my heritage and purchase a custom heirloom dress to pass onto my daughters. ⁣
⁣
This will be the most beautiful and exquisite dress I’ve ever owned, made with finest silk and adorned with one-of-a-kind embroideries stitched line by line by keepers of my culture. ⁣
⁣
It’ll be the dress that my daughters & granddaughters remember me by when I’m no longer of this world.
⁣
Today I reached another milestone in motherhood and it makes my heart burst with gratitude and peace.
