With all the chaos in the world right now, it’s easy to forget what we have control over and what we don’t. While we can’t fix the energy of our country and everyone in it, we can take control of how we feel in our day to day.
If you are spending most of your time at home, there are ways to refresh to boost your mood, decrease stress, and ultimately create a space of peace and ease. Let’s take a look at how to improve the flow of your life in 2022.
8 Ways to Improve the Flow of Your Life
I have several tips and tools that I use regularly to make me feel energized and rejuvenated in my own home…even if we have been stuck here 24/7 for almost a year now!. A couple of these may seem “woo-woo” to some people, but I can confidently say that they work so well for me, and I hope they will for you too!
1. Open your windows once a day
This is such a small thing to do, but it makes a huge impact. Even during the winter when it’s colder outside, opening a window for even a few minutes will bring in fresh air and refreshing energy. Have you ever curled up with a blanket next to an open window on a chilly day? It feels incredible.
No matter how hot or cold it is outside, I make sure to open my windows daily even for a few minutes (typically I leave it open for at least 15 minutes) and this goes for my kids’ room as well. It helps not only to circulate the air in the home but also to remove any stagnant energy in the room. I’m pretty sensitive to energies, so I can immediately feel a difference in the air.
2. Essential oils
Essential oils are one of my absolute must-haves to improve the flow of my life and home. I always have my diffuser on while working in my office. It instantly makes me feel calm and energized at the same time. Each essential oil has a different purpose and can even be mixed to create the perfect scent for you. My favorites are frankincense, lavender, and peppermint.
Peppermint oil wakes me up and helps me with concentration in the home office, almost like a cup of coffee for the brain. I love lavender for its calming effects and relaxing scent. Frankincense oil is known for its high frequency and I love using it for meditation or re-centering.
3. Palo Santo Smudge Stick
Originating in South America, palo santo is used to remove negative energy and cleanse spaces. To properly use a palo santo smudge stick, simply hold the stick at an angle, light, and let it burn for about 30 seconds to one minute.
Gently wave it in the air around your home or wave your hand over the stick to produce the smoke. It has a beautifully sweet scent of pine, lemon, and mint and I love the cleansing and grounding feeling.
You can purchase palo santo sticks like these on Etsy.
4. Wash your sheets
I know, duh. Of course we all need clean sheets, but doing it more often and switching up how you do is what makes the difference. The next time you go to wash your sheets, use dryer balls with essential oils instead of dryer sheets. It’s way better for the environment and more cost effective in the long run. Other benefits include:
-
faster drying time
-
softens your fabrics naturally
-
no chemicals
Pro tip: Sprinkle a few drops of lavender essential oil on the dryer balls to make your clothes smell extra lovely. It’s the little things, right?
5. Declutter your space
Decluttering plays a huge role to improve the flow of your life. Over the year, we all accumulate so many things we don’t really need. Some top places to declutter are your:
-
junk drawer (we all have one!)
-
under the kitchen sink
-
kitchen pantry
-
playroom
-
bathroom cabinets
-
hall closets
-
car
Also, I don’t know who needs to hear this, but throw out those manuals for every piece of technology you have. You’re never going to use them!

6. Automate or delete your digital clutter
A place that we don’t often think to improve the flow of is our digital life. Take this time to delete old bills that are no longer relevant and automate any that are reoccurring. This will be one less thing to think about each month, and trust me…mental clutter is a thing too!
When is the last time you cleared out your email inbox or the camera roll on your phone? If this is overwhelming to you, take 5 minutes each morning to delete old photos and emails to slowly clear things out.
7. Donate old clothes
Continuing with the theme of decluttering, I always choose 1-2 times per year to gather and donate old clothes. Go through each item in your closet. If you can’t think of the last time you wore it, it goes in the donate pile. I have a great blog post all about my Konmari tidying up journey with my closet. You can read that post here. It will give you step by step action to take.
8. Add natural elements to your home
Bringing Earthy objects into your home can completely change the Feng Shui. Here is my list of favorites:
Plants
The more plants, the better. Studies have shown that real indoor plants reduce your stress and boost your mood, productivity, and creativity. They also help clean your space by absorbing toxins in the air.
Water Elements
Consider adding some sort of small indoor water element, like this or this, to your home office, living room, or bedroom. The soothing sound of water instantly brings peace to any space. Hearing a gentle waterfall always makes me feel like I’m in a spa.
Crystals
If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen my crystals that I have around my house. I love them because they are so pretty and I love its natural elements. Beyond just decoration, crystals have been used for centuries to improve feng shui, raise vibrations, and for healing. Similar to essential oils, different kinds of crystals are used for different purposes. Putting them next to a window where they capture light can raise the frequency of your home.
Amethyst is my favorite crystal and one of the most powerful. It is known to rid your mind of negative thoughts, heal, and protect. Some other crystals that help to empower your mind, body, and Spirit are:
- rose quartz
- citrine
- black tourmaline
- clear quartz

Fresh Flowers
I grow flowers in my backyard, and also frequently purchase them. Having fresh flowers in your home brings so much joy. Not only do they add a wonderful natural fragrance to a room, but they are also beautiful to look at. Even your local grocery store has really pretty flower bouquets you can bring home. My favorite flowers are roses and peonies!
I hope you’ve picked up a few new ideas that will inspire you to improve the flow of your life this year. Which one are you most excited to try?
