For part 2 of The First Birthday Party series, I’m delighted to share a flamingo birthday party created by my dear friend Esther. I’ve known Esther since high school and we grew closer as we became mothers. We came a long way since we first met, and we often remark about how much we both have transformed over the years, especially since we became moms.
Esther is a mother of two and a talented mommy chef who shares the most delicious and healthy glutten-free recipes on her Instagram page which you can find here. She has a background in fashion which explains her beautifully curated photos and fashionable props.
For her daughter Coco’s birthday, she put together most of the decor herself including the banner, tablescape and flowers. As you can see from the rest of the post, it’s possible to put together a beautiful and meaningful first birthday party by styling and decorating yourself with some help from family and friends.
Theme + Style
Flamingo, pink, girly, floral, DIY, Traditional Korean costume (hanbok)
Flamingo Themed Dohl/Dol Head Table
I love how she incorporated soft pink and pastel shades instead of bright pink for the entire party.
Details
And look at the details on the head table: books, gold vases, photos , flamingo cookies, cupcakes, smash cake, CC cupcakes, tiny floral accents, and a giant ONE birthday cake!
One of my favorite part of the party was the unexpected details like this giant flamingo tube. She put all the kids’ party favors in there, which was such a cute and functional idea.
I also loved the DIY photo booth with cute props. And of course, the dedicated Instagram hashtag!
Doljabi
This is the highlight of a Korean first birthday. During this game called “doljabi,” guests are invited to guess which item they think the baby will choose. Parents decide what they want to lay out on the floor but some key items are money (for wealth), rice or string (for long life), stethoscope (doctor), whisk (chef), book (scholar/writer) and ball (for athlete). I love how the mom added a robot for robotic engineer.
The birthday girl chose a soccer ball while the surrounding guests cheered. It was such a meaningful celebration with so much love and cheer in the air!
Esther’s traditional hanbok juxtaposed with Coco’s flamingo costume was the perfect attire for this beautiful event. Thank you for sharing your special day with us. Congratulations again to the beautiful duo!
