Modern Playmat For Babies And Kids

Like most Asian families, we don’t wear shoes in the house and dogs are kept downstairs most of the time. Our carpet is less than two years old. But with three kids and two dogs in the house it still gets dirty and I don’t feel good about Baby D rolling around on the carpet and eating things off of it. Nowadays everything goes in his mouth and I can never vacuum fast enough. Therefore, playmats are a must have for any parent who wants to designate a clean, safe and fun space for their baby.

Baby mats have come a long way since I had my first child. Back then they only had these cheap alphabet letter foam mats that get destroyed within months. It got dirty too fast and wasn’t durable enough to withstand all the crawling, playing, hitting and drooling of babies.

Then I came across these thicker mats from Korea. Nowadays these mats can be found at major retailers like Buybuy BABY and Babies R US. You can also find them on Amazon. I like these because they’re easy to clean and durable. This particular mat is over ten years old and while it’s still usable, it needed to be replaced.

Creamhaus Non-Toxic Foldable Play Mat

This is the latest style of baby mats that are available today. These are also from Korea, which is known for its high quality and innovative baby and kids products. After using the Creamhaus mat for a few weeks, I can confidently say I like the quality, durability and functionality of these mats. They are superior than the previous type and I like them for the following reasons.

  • Easy to clean
  • Easy to move around
  • Easy to store
  • Foldable
  • Keeps baby away from the dirty carpet
  • Provides protection
  • Thick padding
  • Neutral colors

The mat folds up nicely like this for easy transfer and storage

Mat is 1.6 inches thick

It’s also much thicker than traditional play mats. It feels nice against the skin and provides superb padding. Baby D can roll around, play, drool all over it and I can wipe it off with any wet cloth. It’s also the perfect place for a daytime nap. 🙂

Baby D’s Play Area

This is Baby D’s play area. I donated a ton of unneeded books and toys over the past few years and have downsized for the most part. My kids only have one bookcase full of books, soft toys and board games, which is more than enough. I used my dogs’ old plastic gate to keep Baby D from reaching places that can be dangerous for him.

We put two mats together to cover the entire space. As you can see, the mat is very soft with a nice sheen to it. It almost looks and feels like those mats you see in martial arts studios, except a lot prettier. Be sure to measure out the space and know how many mats you will need.

Korean culture is very particular about hygiene and cleanliness, especially when it comes to babies and kids. They are also very health and eco-conscious, which makes me trust their products. According to Creamhaus, all their products are free of PVC, BPA, formamide, phthalates, fire retardants and other harmful chemicals.

Overall, I really like the Creamhaus mat. It’s functional, easy to clean and thick enough to provide enough padding for the baby. You can use it in many different spaces such as the nursery, living room, bedrooms, pretty much any place that you want to designate as baby’s space. The only downside is that if you have to cover a large space, you may need more than one.

  1. Wow I love it! You are absolutely right about the tiles and letter shaped mats they are garbage. I could really use something like this for Holland!
