November is here, which means Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner. Like many of you, this is my favorite season of the year because we get extra time to spend with our loved ones. The weather cools, holiday decorations adorn homes and aisles and life seems to slow down a bit, giving us much needed time to relax, reflect and enjoy the warmth of the season.
However the holiday season also brings those nasty cold and flu germs that often gets passed around from one family member to the next. Keeping the family healthy during cold season is no easy task especially for today’s busy mothers who have their hands full.
Today I want to share with you some of my personal tips for keeping our family healthy during this cold/flu season. I’m not a medical professional and if you ever have questions about your health, be sure to see your primary care doctor. These are simply my personal tips and reviews of products that boost my family’s immunity and health.
1. Keep Parents Healthy First And Foremost
As a busy mom of three kids, I know how easy it is to neglect our own health. We never forget to take our kids to their annual check ups yet often forget to schedule annual check ups for ourselves. However our health should always be a primary concern because our health and well-being is the greatest gift we can pass onto our children, don’t you think?
In my family, we use daily vitamins and supplements to support our immunity. I’ve been taking Nature’s Way, Women’s Energy, Multivitamin and Multimineral and Nature’s Way Calcium for about a month now and can feel its effects. It gives me more energy and improves my overall sense of well being. I also like knowing that I’m supplementing my body with essential vitamins and minerals that are not met by my diet alone.
Similarly, my husband takes Nature’s Way, Men’s Vitamins for his needs that are different than my own.
2. Take Echinacea
The benefits of echinacea has been discussed in the medical community for many years now. Echinacea is a native North American coneflower that was discovered and used as a traditional herbal remedy for more than 400 years by the Indian tribes. Nowadays it comes in easy to digest oil forms like Nature’s Way, Echinacea Goldenseal. This can be used by both adults and children and you simply add it to small amount of water!
Some well known benefits include boosted immunity, prevention of cancer, alleviation of pain, anti-inflammatory and mild laxative effects, and improved skin and mental health. Studies have shown that echinacea cuts the chances of catching a common cold by 58% and fights common infections.
3. Use Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is very popular these days because its well known benefits are numerous. Some notable benefits are that it strengthens the immune system, prevents high cholesterol and blood pressure levels, prevents dryness of skin, nourishes hair, helps to heal damaged tissues and organs, improves bone strength and dental health, promotes nutrient absorption, increases metabolism and helps in weight loss. (From Web MD)
You can use Nature’s Way MCT Coconut Oil in many ways such as cooking and adding to food. You can mix this into smoothies, shakes, coffee and other beverages as well as salads and yogurt. I like that Nature’s Way’s MCT oil contains no filler oils and is flavorless and odorless. It’s a painless way of adding a dose of health and immunity to our daily lifestyle.
4. Vitamins For Kids
Nature’s Way Gummies provides an easy way for our children to obtain essential vitamins and minerals. It contains 26 fruits and vegetables and provides Vitamin A, C, D3, E, niacin, B6, Folic Acid and Biotin among other nutrients. They taste great and my kids love taking 3 gummies a day. They think its a treat and I have to stop them from eating more!
5. Take Probiotics
I’m a firm believer of probiotics and give it to my children daily. My current favorite is the Nature’s Way probiotic. It especially helps my oldest daughter who takes seizure medication daily and often suffers from its side effects such as upset stomach.
Probiotics is great for digestive support and immune health. Many people use probiotics to prevent problems associated with prolonged use of certain medications such as antibiotics. It is being studied for benefits in colon cancer, skin infection, various bowel/digestive problems, etc. You can read more about it here.

Great tips! Cold and flu season is the worst! We are big believers of echinacea and multi-vitamins in our house!
Yes to alllll of these tips but especially #1! I hate that such a fun season always comes hand in hand with being sick! Cheers to staying healthy this year!
Great advice. I give my little one some vitamins but that’s not the case with me or my boyfriend. As you said parents very often tend to neglect their own health and wellbeing and we are no different. I will take your tips and finally start doing something for myself too.
