I love decorating during the fall. There are so many areas throughout the home that can be decorated for the season, but few set the mood quite like the fireplace mantel. It’s the perfect focal point for family gatherings. So, as I prepare to decorate my own fireplace mantel for the season, I thought I’d talk about fall fireplace mantel decorating. Hopefully this post will inspire you to decorate your own mantel as a way to celebrate the fall season!
Autumn Accents: Fall Fireplace Mantel Decor
Decorating my fireplace mantel for fall brings me joy for several reasons. Not only does it add a touch of coziness to my living room, but it allows me to combine two things I adore: interior design and the fall season. I also enjoy getting my family involved when decorating my home with seasonal decor, and I’m pleasantly surprised when they offer their own fall decorating suggestions.
When decorating my mantel, regardless of the season, I typically follow three simple rules:
- Keep it balanced
- Mix colors and textures
- Play around with various heights
With that in mind, let’s get into some different fall mantel decorating ideas you can use for your own fireplace mantel.
Autumn Accents: Fall Mantel Decor Ideas
Rustic Fall Fireplace Mantel Decor
There are countless ways to put together a rustic fall fireplace mantel, but this theme mainly makes use of farmhouse style decor. Elements to incorporate include pampas grass in rustic vases, white pillar candles, wooden accents, and perhaps a garland or fall wreath made from dried flowers or fall leaves. If you don’t already have a mirror above your mantel, you can easily add one that fits this theme.
Metallic Fall Fireplace Mantel Decor
For a metallic-themed fall mantel display, you want to incorporate pieces of gold or silver fireplace decor. If you’re into DIY, you can spray paint faux pumpkins of various sizes, as well as pinecones and acorns with gold spray paint.
I love the elegance of this fall mantel idea, but remember, especially for this idea, less is more. If you try to use too many items, your fireplace mantel will look overcrowded or “busy” which takes away from the goal of creating a cozy area in your home.
Halloween Fall Fireplace Mantel Decor
This is a great mantel decor idea for families with younger kids. You can decorate your mantel for fall using various Halloween decor items and make it as spooky or as chic as you want. From mini skeleton figurines to jack-o-lantern tea lights or even a Halloween garland, your options are practically endless when it comes to decorating your fireplace mantel for Halloween!
Traditional Fall Fireplace Mantel Decor
For many of us, the traditional route is the preferred one! That’s perfectly okay, too! You can use fall colors to create a beautiful traditional fall mantel. Some decor ideas include pillar candles, picture frames, and vases with fresh or faux flowers.
Plaid Accents Fall Fireplace Mantel Decor
Plaid practically screams fall, so naturally, it makes a great theme for a fall fireplace mantel.
To DIY plaid accents for your fall mantel, grab some inexpensive vases (I recommend at least three different sizes) and wrap them in scrap plaid fabric. Then, add faux flowers, leaves, and branches in colors that coordinate with the plaid. You can even hang a garland with plaid accents to pull it all together.
Fall Foliage Fireplace Mantel Decor
Using dried or faux fall foliage and reclaimed wood, you can create a stunning fireplace mantel to celebrate the season. Depending on where you live, you might be able to find everything you need for this decor idea right in your backyard. If not, you can easily purchase pieces to fill the space and create a lovely area in your living room, such as this fall foliage garland or these birch twigs.
Warm Candlelight Fall Fireplace Mantel Decor
Before you immediately shun this idea over fears of open flames, keep in mind that you can achieve the same effect using flameless LED candles. Whether you put them atop candle holders or inside of lanterns, bunching candles together on your mantel is a great way to create a cozy area above your fireplace.
Boho Fall Fireplace Mantel Decor
Bring the boho decor trend to your fireplace mantel this fall with the right decor. Put a macrame tapestry above your mantel or hang a macrame garland over your fireplace. Add bouquets of pampas grass in a few vases. This idea is perfect for anyone who prefers a neutral color palette for their home decor, even for the holidays.
Apple Fall Fireplace Mantel Decor
If apple picking is one of your fall family traditions, and even if it isn’t, you can incorporate the fall fruit into your home decor. Artificial apples in red or even in gold can be added to a garland or fall wreath, or you can pile them up with other fall decor you have lying around the house. Another idea is to use a faux fruit bouquet to add some height to your mantel decor.
Enchanted Forest Fall Fireplace Mantel Decor
For mantel decor that will transition seamlessly into winter, consider an enchanted forest theme. Entwine fairy lights and a greenery garland, then add flameless candles made to look like tree stumps. Miniature pine trees complete the decor.
